ChimSpect software was designed by Jim Ferguson, a 40-year veteran of the chimney service industry. Jim is certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America as a Certified Chimney Specialist, Certified Chimney Professions as a Master Chimney Technician, an F.I.R.E certified inspector from the Fire Investigation and Research and Education Service, and a Certified Specialist by the N.F.I. The National Fireplace Institute.
He is an instructor for the CSIA, a trainer for the Copperfield Chimney Training Institute, and a certified remote pilot by the FAA. ChimSpect software is used by hundreds of chimney service professionals all over the USA and has been used to create over 165,000 chimney inspection reports since it was released in the fall of 2018. ChimSpect was the first app of its kind, and the ChimSpect team continually devotes hundreds of hours of research and development to keeping this software state-of-the-art for the chimney service industry.
When Jim, our chimney expert, was visiting family in Phoenix, Arizona, the local news was following a story about 11 chimney fires on Christmas Eve. There were lives lost and millions of dollars in property damages. As the pictures of the devastated houses and the offending fireplaces were shown, it was apparent to Jim that every one of these fireplaces had been built or installed improperly. All these fires could have been prevented! Lives could have been saved, and properties protected from damage if only they had been serviced by qualified, competent chimney technicians who followed the proper inspection standards outlined in the NFPA 211! ChimSpect helps technicians follow these standards.
